Referee Academy-April Sessions - last updated 4/1/13

The CNRA Referee Academy Program’s inaugural year has started to attract attention.  The Program is now seen as a means of bringing higher, continuing education to intermediate level referees, especially grade 8 and grade 7 referees looking to distinguish themselves from those referees with only entry level referee training.

The series consists of monthly classroom and field training sessions at the Area (District) level, culminating in a quarterly Statewide session.  The instructors and presenters are National level and FIFA referees leading classroom discussions such as:

-Game management

-AR involvement

-Bench control

-Foul recognition

Field exercises such as:

-Interval endurance training

-Referee field awareness drills

-Teamwork signal drills

-Working under time constraint drills

Referees are encouraged to join into the Program at any time, as the agenda and topics change monthly.  There is no charge to attend the sessions, however one must attend both monthly sessions prior to attending the State session.  Sessions can be attended in any of the 9 CNRA Areas.

The passing of Fernando Alvarez - last updated 2/25/13

From CNRA and other sources:

Former U.S. Soccer National Assessor, Fernando Gimenez Alvarez has passed away at the age of 90. Alvarez was part of the FIFA International Board of Referees, is credited with creating the “substitution” signal in 1982 and was instrumental in the development of the U.S. Soccer Referee Program.  We would like all Areas to have a minute of silence to honor the life of Fernando Alvarez.

Please see the link below for more information.  We will also be holding a minute of silence during the state session in March.

Change in Cost of Entry Level Referee Course -   last updated on 2/2/13

CNRA State Director of Instruction has announced that the cost for the Entry Level Clinic (ELC) will increase to $300.00 going forward. Additionally, CNRA is working with www.GameOfficials website to streamline the ELC course request, registration and new referee registration process. This change is expected to eliminate much of the physical paperwork associated with the course and improve identification and communication between the newly registered referees and USSF. Look for this change in the next few months. See a revised "Grade 8 and 9 Clinic Request Form" under the "Classes and Clinics" tab on the left.
